FROM YANGON TO THE WORLD: GSA EDITION 11 LAUNCH IN MYANMAR

A New Chapter for Myanmar Startups Begins with MYANWEN and GSA

On March 22, 2025, we officially launched Edition 11 of the Global Startup Awards in Myanmar.
The event, hosted at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Yangon, brought together over 150 founders, investors and ecosystem partners from across the country to mark a key milestone for Myanmar’s startup ecosystem.

At the center of this milestone is the Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Network (MYANWEN), our first official GSA Country Partner in Myanmar. As the driving force behind the launch, MYANWEN is opening the door for Myanmar’s startups to connect with GSA’s global platform, which spans 154+ countries and 19 regions.

What went down: A launch rooted in purpose and community

Far from just a formal launch, the day was all about meaningful conversations, shared purpose and building real connections across the startup community. As the official host of this launch event, MYANWEN has taken a bold step forward to champion local startups and connect them with international networks, mentorship and visibility.

The event opened with an energizing introduction to the GSA platform, spotlighting our Southeast Asia Ambassadors. Through panel sessions and open discussions, they shared real-world experiences, hands-on advice, and inspiring stories that reinforced one powerful truth: innovation can come from anywhere.

The role of Myanwen: More than a partner

Founded in April 2020, MYANWEN is a forward-thinking, non-profit and non-governmental organization driven by a bold mission: to empower women, accelerate socio-economic development, and champion equal access to opportunity. Led by a diverse group of successful entrepreneurs, professionals, and next-generation change-makers, MYANWEN is building the kind of inclusive, future-ready ecosystem that startups need to thrive.

Through capacity-building programs, cross-border partnerships, and a strong commitment to community, MYANWEN has become a vital force in shaping Myanmar’s innovation landscape. Their six-pillar mission, spanning digital literacy, financial access, environmental sustainability and youth entrepreneurship, perfectly aligns with the values at the heart of the GSA: innovation, inclusion, and impact.

As our first-ever official GSA Country Partner in Myanmar, MYANWEN brings deep local knowledge, trust, and a visionary approach to ecosystem building. Their leadership, networks and passion for creating real change make them an ideal partner to spotlight Myanmar’s most promising startups on the global stage.

“It’s incredible to see so many nominations pouring in already! As the Program Lead, I’m beyond proud to be part of this initiative and to help unlock global opportunities for Myanmar’s startup ecosystem. Let’s mark Myanmar firmly on the map!”

- Win Lae Mya Yee San, Central Executive Committee Member and Joint Secretary, MYANWEN

momentum that matters

The launch event was just the beginning. What’s next is even more exciting. GSA Edition 11 is now in its nomination phase and will continue to unfold over the coming weeks, offering Myanmar’s startups the chance to gain global recognition, mentorship and access to opportunities that can shape the future of their ventures.

We’re incredibly proud to partner with MYANWEN, whose visionary leadership and deep-rooted commitment to Myanmar’s entrepreneurs reflect the true spirit of the GSA. Their work continues to build vital bridges between bold, local ideas and global networks.

To every Ambassador, Ecosystem Partner, guest and founder who joined us: thank you. Your energy, curiosity and support made this launch a meaningful milestone for the entire startup community.

As we move forward, our hearts are also with those affected by the most recent, devastating earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand. In times like these, the strength of community matters more than ever, and we remain committed to standing together and rising together.
